Katie is extremely grateful to be alive after sustaining several life-threatening injuries. Katie, an 19-year-old student, originally from Quincy, Illinois, is a sophomore at Tulane University in New Orleans.Katie is the oldest of three children. Just 22 months separate Katie and her sister and best friend, Elizabeth. Katie has studied violin since she was 5 years old. She loves to play the violin and is a member of the Tulane University orchestra. Baseball is Katie’s passion, whether it is her beloved St. Louis Cardinals or following her younger brother, Malachi, and his baseball team. She is a Public Health major and is studying to be a dentist.
Katie asked everyone who came to her rescue that day to pray out loud with her. They did and heaven sent a priest to the scene to pray out loud for Katie and to offer encouragement to the rescue workers. Katie and her family have been blessed that the simple message of “Pray Out Loud” was reported around the world.
